A Message from Our Owner
Our Mission
Word Play provides superior quality home- and community-based speech therapy services to children and adults. We are committed to delivering the highest level of individualized, supportive care to each person and family we serve across our diverse Arizona communities.
Our Philosophy
We don’t believe great therapy comes from strict systems or one-size-fits-all approaches. It comes from clinicians who are supported, trusted, and able to think for themselves.
At Word Play, you have the freedom to adapt your sessions, be creative, and do what’s best for the families you serve. As part of our team, you’re given the space and support to do your job well. And if you need help, you have it! You’re never left on your own to figure things out.

Meet the Owners of Word Play
Our owners, Stephanie Strom and Lorraine Read, are speech-language pathologists who have spent decades doing the same work you’ll be doing.
They understand the challenges of home-based therapy, and they’ve built Word Play to offer the kind of support they wish every clinician had: accessible, responsive, and grounded in real experience.
Our owners are approachable, involved, and genuinely care about every member of our team. They’re committed to making sure you feel supported to do your best work for the families we serve across Arizona.
Why Work with Word Play?
We know home-based work can feel isolating, which is why we’ve built a model that keeps you supported, connected, and never on your own. Here’s what that looks like in practice.
- Support when you need it: Call, text, or email during sessions and get a quick response—you’re not left to figure things out on your own!
- Real team connection: In-person events throughout the year (from casual dinners to team outings and fundraisers) so you actually get to know the people you work with.
- Independence without isolation: You have the freedom to run your sessions your way, with the backing of a team that’s there when you need support.
Have Questions?
If you’re considering applying but want to talk things through first, we’d love to hear from you! Whether you have questions about the role or what support looks like, we’re happy to walk you through it.
